Plates can be ordered through your local Department of Motor Vehicles office, tax collector or private license plate agency, or online. ’Canes can also join the specialty license plate campaign to get the U plate to North Carolina drivers. While the new design is currently only available to Florida-registered vehicles, University of Miami plates are also available in Maryland and in Georgia. Plates can be personalized with initials, class year, or any other sign of University spirit (up to five characters).
The new U plate costs $25 plus registration fees. Proceeds from every University of Miami Florida license plate sold help fund student scholarships. Since the start of the specialty plate program, nearly 80,000 custom tags have been purchased, raising nearly $2 million for scholarships.
Now, Florida residents can purchase the sleek new plate to show off their ’Canes pride and support student scholarships. The Pride Your Ride Tournament launched with eight unique license plate designs and invited alumni, family, and friends to vote in three rounds of matchups.ġ2,000 votes later, the all-black design was selected.
Last year, the University of Miami Alumni Association engaged fans from around the world to vote on the U’s next Florida license plate in a prize-filled, single-elimination tournament.
